Today marked the 18th anniversary since the untimely death of rapper The Notorious B.I.G.! The rapper, whose real name was Christopher Wallace, was murdered March 9, 1997, after having attended an after party hosted by Vibe Magazine & Qwest Records for the Soul Train Music Awards. At a time when most would be grieving, we aim to celebrate his legacy in hip-hop!
His second album, the Diamond-certified Life After Death, was released just two weeks after his death. The album spawned a plethora of hits, and featured a laundry list of guests, including Bone Thugs n Harmony, Lil' Kim, The Lox, Angela Winbush, Rev Run, Jay-Z, 112, and many others.
Since then, Posthumous releases have included 1999's Born Again, and 2005's Duets: The Final Chapter. A Greatest Hits album was released in 2007, and in 2009, a biopic, Notorious, was released in theaters with an accompanied soundtrack.
Even today, hip-hop fans continue to buy Wallace's music. To date, his music has sold an astonishing 17+ million copies, and those numbers continue to grow.
